Hanneke Koolen teaches dance history and theory at the bachelor dancer/maker of ArtEZ in Arnhem. She received a masters degree in Theater-, Film-, and Television studies from the University of Utrecht in 2003. Her thesis dealt with the relationship between dance and cultural identity. Untill 2010 Hanneke worked as a lecturer at the same university, where she participated in a wide variety of courses, teaching subjects like film & television analysis, dance analysis, philosophy, and communication studies. At both ArtEZ and the U.U. she coached students writing their bachelor’s thesis and she taught a course on dance history at the Rijn Ijssel MBO in Arnhem. From 2006 till 2012, Hanneke was an editor of the Dutch Dans Magazine and co-edited Danswetenschap in Nederland 8, which was published in 2015. In her spare time she practices rhythm tap, flamenco and lindy hop.
